The water drops to depths of 50 feet and is suitable for small boats as well as canoes. There are also several picnic spots nearby. Branch Lake is also a popular spot for those who like fishing and boating. Not far away is Birdsacre, which is a wildlife sanctuary where you can see birds and other animals native to Maine. There are plenty of other things to do in Ellsworth such as the Blueberry Festival. You can pick the fresh fruit on several farms, too. The Great Maine Lumberjack Show is just a short drive away and lets you see lumberjacks as they perform death-defying and exciting acts. If you want to find unique souvenirs or check out local antiques, make time to visit the Big Chicken Barn and the Creamery Antique Mall.
