Owner Description

I had no intention of buying a timeshare during my first beach vacation to Royal Solaris Cancun in 2005, but halfway through the first week at Royal Solaris Cancun, I was hooked. Despite being in Cancun, I purchased a timeshare at Los Cabos Royal Solaris because they were offering a deep discount that still allowed me access to the Cancun properties. Although the week I own is during the low season, I typically visit during peak season. Traveling out of season requires a small upgrade fee, but is well worth it.

The rooms are nice and most have been recently remodeled. The food and drink is plentiful and of good quality. The service is top notch and it's nice to see so many of the same faces every year when I go back. The entertainment team does a great job entertaining and engaging you at the pool and putting on shows in the theater in the evening. In Los Cabos, the theater is a dinner show with a buffet. At the Cancun properties, you eat at the restaurants and then go to the show. The Mexican show is one that they bring in a professional troop to do and it definitely my favorite.

One of the best things about Club Solaris is that it's properties are large enough that you can find plenty to do but small enough that you have a chance to get to know other people. People are very friendly and by the end of the trip, you'll have many new friends when you leave the resort. I have made many friends over the years with whom I continue to keep in touch.

Many ask why I don't just book on Expedia or some other portal. As a member, since I only pay the all-inclusive rate, I get it quite a bit cheaper than I can get on any of the travel portals--especially if a book early and take advantage of the 20% all-inclusive discount. Also, members who book directly with the resort get priority on ocean front or ocean view rooms even when not traveling on their contracted week, subject to availability. Of course, if traveling during your contracted week, you're guaranteed your room, which in my case is oceanview.

People who book through the travel portals also do not get the perks that I called out in the comments about the timeshare. The free house tour (day excursion) has a value of $80-150 depending upon which tour you choose to do and the resorts continue to add new options. Recently, they have also started to add members only lounges, which are well stocked with premium liquors that you can't get elsewhere on the resort. Members also get different food and wine menus in the restaurants, which offer an upgraded dining experience.

PRICE REDUCED!!  NO MAINTENANCE FEES!!

OCEAN VIEW UNIT!  ALL INCLUSIVE RESORT!

Membership entitles owner to contracted room and specified week at Royal Solaris Los Cabos during every odd year through 2035.  All-inclusive fees are still required of all resort guests, including timeshare owners.  All-inclusive discounts of up to 20% are available to members if you book early.  Essentially, the room ends up being free to members, which in my experience saves $50-100 per person per night when compared to published rates on most travel portals.

Biennial contracted week may be internally exchanged for a similar room on a different week during the same season at Royal Solaris Los Cabos or to any of the three Club Solaris properties in Cancun (Royal Solaris Cancun, GR Caribe, or GR Solaris) at no extra charge.  Internal exchange to a higher season to any of the Club Solaris properties can also be done for a small season upgrade fee:  $99 from low to medium or $199 from low to high per person.  Despite owning low season (cheaper to purchase), I always travel in the Spring (high season).  Even with this upgrade fee, it still ends up being cheaper than I can get on a travel portals which also do not include many of the member perks covered later.

Unused biennial contracted week can be deposited to RCI for external exchange within 3 years from the date of deposit. This allows you to use your contracted week at any RCI affiliated resort based upon your deposit's exchange power and availability.  A membership in RCI is required.  RCI deposit and exchange fees apply.  This also gives you access to RCI's platform for other deeply discounted trips and last minute travel deals throughout the year.

Members always receive great service and can take advantage of several members only perks that people who book via internet travel portals. Members who stay 6 nights or longer, can participate in the members only gala dinner, welcome dinner, complimentary house tour (usually several options such as an eco tour or day visit to Isla Mujeres organized by the resort), and have access to premium food and liquors.

There is also a referral program where you can earn free nights and/or stays if any become members.  Referred parties get the same benefits as members.  You can also extend your benefits to friends and family for the same price, subject to availability.  I've never had a problem bringing guests due to lack of availability.

Did I mention that there are no maintenance fees!?
