Review:
For over 10 years we have used the Royal Bali Beach Club to explore the East of Bali. This seaside resort is the laid back idyll that the now over visited regions of Kuta and Nusa Dua once were 40 years ago on our first visit to this magical paradise. Well appointed, it is laid out in the traditional Balinese "low rise" courtyard construction around lush tropical gardens and central bar & restaurant over looking the pool and sparkling ocean just beyond. Cooled by sea breezes it makes a welcome haven to retreat to whether you just finished breakfast or come back from an excursion or activity. Using Candi Dasa as a base we have visited the nearby traditional Balinese Aga village of Tenganan where the ancient art of ikat weaving is still practiced, a little further north are the Water Gardens of Tirta Gangga near Amlapura and the Water Palace at Kangaesem both cool retreats from the midday sun. Snorkeling at Amed or even the wartime wreck of the USS Liberty a short drive up the East Coast is a rewarding activity as is hiring a local fisherman's outrigger canoe for a scenic cruise out to the Blue Lagoon just across the bay from the resort. 'Nearby Padang Bai is a great stepping off point from which to visit the nearby Nusa Lembongan for the best view of Mt Agung in Bali or even the Gili Islands just off Lombock across the Bali Strait. We have even traveled inland to towards Ubud and cycled back down to the sea.
Once a week the resort has a dance night where the children from the local village perform traditional dances backed by the local Village's gamelan orchestra beside the pool, with the sound waves crashing behind them, it's not to be missed.
